I Wanted to Be Like You

Swing in playground close up

When I was little

Brother, you were big

You held answers to the riddle

What’s so cool to bug

pester you

I wanted to look, act, talk like that

In every way like you too

Every time we would spat

Fight like cats and rats

I aspired to be your equal

I desired to be the kid that

Would follow your footsteps, a sequel

Because the prequel was pretty cool

I wanted to be your sidekick too

At home base we’d rule

I just wanted to be like you.

Did you pester your siblings or were you the one being pestered? Do you look back and think differently about your relationship growing up?
