Respect Earned: A Poem

two person in long sleeved shirt shakehand

When I was a child
I was curious, wild
Someone told me, wiled
Give respect with smiles

Old, titled, big, small
I questioned it all
Their answers stalled
Give respect to all?

The question long since burned
Why give what isn’t earned
Because age has turned
Title long yearned earned?

Respect is given
How you are living
Earn daily liking
By being striking

Stand out from the crowd
In silence be loud
Volume on your cloud
Platform earned be proud

Mutual respect
That’s what I expect
Courtesy neglect
Is respect deflect

Your age and title
Does not ring vital
To respect at all
Earn it, mutual
